Thinking about working for yourself can bring out all sorts of anxieties that throw questions up at you that make you nervous.  Questions like, “What if I don’t have a college degree?”

Do you know how many truly successful people today never got a college degree?  Some of them didn't even finish high school.  I am not at all meaning to name-drop here, but let me give you some fairly well known examples.  Mary Kay, the powerful success behind the well-known cosmetics company didn't let that stop her.  She used her strong drive and clear determination with a piercing focus on her goals ... and she accomplished what she set out to do.  She divulges her story to us in this book.

Another well known and successful entrepreneur is the man behind the movies which kids (and many adults) love and treasure, actually quit high school as a teenager and built Walt Disney into the money maker that it is today.  Lack of formal education won’t make or break you if you set your mind to something, and you determine that whatever it takes, you’re going to do it.  Then and only then will you reach the success you’re looking for.

In saying that, please remember that what signifies 'successful' is something different for almost everyone.  Those who win at the game they choose to play and with the hands they are dealt, are those who fall down but then get back up one more time.

Sometimes, all it takes is an idea to formulate where others can’t yet see the possibility.  Another big name but fine example, is Bill Gates.  Here is a man who believed enough in what he was doing that he took the unconventional path, said goodbye to college, and traded that in for experiencing life as a billionaire.  Here is where you can read more of his story.

You can rest assured that not everyone got on board with his dream.  There will always be challengers to our creativity and ideas.  Whenever you step out into the world with an idea, a dream or a possibility, there are going to be people who will try to tell you all the reasons it won’t work - you know who I mean.  These are the Negative Nancy's, the Downer Dave's, and the Envious Eddie's of this world.

Be prepared to hear every reason under the sun as to why you should take a more conventional route in life.  They’ll tell you to be reasonable, or to obtain the 'necessary' education first to have something to fall back on.  They ultimately don’t believe that your work from home business will succeed.  But they don’t have to.  This isn't about them, and neither is it for them.  The only one who has to be steadfast in believing and knowing it will succeed is you.

That’s not to say that I believe you shouldn't heed the advice of someone who has been there, done that - because there are some work at home jobs that can break both your bank account and your spirit if you get caught up in them.  Which leads us to my next article, and the first point you need to know when you’re ready to start working from home.
